While the heart of our work is with teams, individual attunement is also critical. Here are some free tools to help you get started, along with opportunities to go deeper via our subscription based Practice Portal. These progressive exercises will help you taste and see the goodness of God’s presence and guidance in your everyday work and leadership.

Learning spiritual attunement is like learning a new sport. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but know that with practice it will get more comfortable and powerful for you. Try Wisdom from Above several times before moving on to the others. Over time you will get a feel for which exercises are most helpful depending on the situation you present.

To go through any of these exercises, print out the worksheet and play the audio file. Feel free to hit pause at any point if you need some extra time.

Wisdom from Above (James 3:17)

This exercise helps you take a specific situation you’re facing before God, to gain more of his guidance to help you respond well. It can be any type of situation: “My boss keeps micromanaging me”, “How should I approach this new assignment?”, “I think my friend is lying”, etc.

Wisdom from Above helps you to learn what God’s voice “sounds like.” There are several pauses embedded in this exercise, where you’re listening for God’s guidance to come to you.  As things are coming to mind, this exercise reminds you to be listening for an underlying voice that is “…first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.” (James 3:17)

Search Me and Know Me (Psalm 139:23-24)

When we notice an outsized response to a situation we’re facing, that’s our cue to “check underneath the hood.” Whether it’s a positive or negative reaction, the situation is stirring something that’s important to you, and it will benefit you greatly to better understand and address what’s going on at a deeper level.

This exercise uses body-based awareness and visualization, to help us take situations like this before God, asking him to give us greater self-awareness and guidance.
